Thurs 8th Nov-Lingo
Today Ant tried to teach us a few things in Director but to be honest it was quite hard. But im sure it will get easier in time, just need to get use to the way it needs to be written and understand the maths. it was good to learn a bit more though. We made a ball go from one side of the stage to the other depending where the mouse was and we did the same with video so depending where the cursor was would depend on where the point in the movie would play.
Constrution of box
Over the weekend was very productive as i managed to construct the partitions to my box, paint them and the box so it is all black ready to have the environments constructed in them. I collected up some foilage such as leaves and twigs to put in the holes. Ive got some rocks that i will need to smash up and glue to the sides of the partitions to make the holes feel like a real cave. I had a coldren which had a hand on it which is motion sensored so when you put your hand in the coldren the hand grabs you. I smashed up the coldren so i was just left with the electonics and the hand so i can fix it to one of my sections. i also cooked a turkeys leg and took of the meat and cleaned the bone to use in one of my holes. i think this will be very effective as it is a real bone. I also plastered a friends face and hand and filled the mould up with latex which will be used in one of the holes as the creatures face.
Thurs 25th Oct- Tutorial with Ant
Today i had a tutorial with Ant which was really successful as managed to sort out a day to show me how to use webcam with Direstor. Ive managed to get the webcam hooked up and working in Director so just need the code/lingo now to get the camera working. Decided that i can use the sound from the film as i will only be presenting it to our class but i should really plan to recreate my own sound so i can create my own narrative and will make the story stronger. An idea we came up with regarding which holes you put your hands in was to have the holes which you could put your hand in light up by the use of a projector. This will make it clear to the user and will mean the storyline will make sense.
audio and narrative- wed 24th Oct
Today been a very productive day as ive been able to get some audio done for my narrative which means tomorrow i should be able to put get the webcam hooked up and try to get the sounds triggered off via the webcam. Since doing these sounds ive realised that i want to build up the narrative so it starts of calm and then becomes frantic and scary. so with this i will have different moods reflected in the audio so i dnt want it to start off with sounds being all screams and scary and when the person puts there hand in the next boxs its all calm. This has made me think that i should try and control the narrative a bit so they have an option out of three boxes first which all the audio is calm and then the next three boxes are more scary.
Thurs 18th Oct- Ideas- SP
Ive been struggleing the past few days to determine my idea for my project as i keep ending up thinking of what i want to do for my FMP. When talking to Phil on Tues he seemed to like my idea and made me feel confident but also directed me towards what iwanted to do for my final idea. So i sat down yesturday and started to write down exactly what i wanted to do which is to create a mutli sensory narrative. Ive decided that i dont want to use a simple click on the screen and something happens. I think my piece will be very good with just audio and using the sense of touch so the imagination is working rather then being fed info via visuals. Ive decided to use just audio and the user has to put there hand in a hole to start each piece of audio which will make the user incharge of the narrative. In each box will be either objects like some bones or i will hopefully be able to use warm wind which will feel like the creature breathing on you.

Today ive been looking into Make Controller Kits and that site im using seems very useful as it explains everything. It tells you all the lingo to use (OSC) when talking to the board so hopefully will be quite straightforward. Just need to get the kit now and have a play around. the site ive been looking at is www.makingthings.com. Also been looking at the technologies i could use in my multi sensory enviroment. Came across this massage chair where it includes heat, massage and sound which looks ideal as it will set the user in the middle of the action. need to have a look if i can find anything that sprays out mist or warm air. had a look at some usb fans, found some online which i might get but guna have a look in some shops first so can get it quicker.
